I want to sell a security but I'm being told that it's not held in the selected account. What do I do?

If you see the message The security you wish to sell is not held in the selected account, this means that the amount of shares offered for sale is greater than the amount of shares held.

Here are some possible solutions:

  • Check that the account in which you are selling is the one in which you hold the shares.
  • It may be that a sell order is open for the quantity of shares that you wish to sell. If this is the case, modify the original order rather than placing a new one. Visit the Current orders section to make this change.

You can also review the status or modify your orders via the NBC Wealth app by following these steps:

  1. Sign in to the NBC Wealth app
  2. Choose National Bank Direct Brokerage among the Wealth Management divisions listed in the dropdown menu (your preferences will be saved next time you sign in)
  3. Make sure you already set up single sign-on user ID
  4. Click More, then, under the Activities section, click Current orders
