I want to sell a security but I am being told that it is not held in the selected account. What do I do?

If you see "The security you wish to sell is not held in the selected account", this means that the amount of shares offered for sale is greater than the amount of shares held. 

Here are some possible solutions:

  • Check that the account in which you are selling is the one in which you hold the shares.
  • It may be that a sell order is open for the quantity of shares that you wish to sell. If this is the case, modify the original order rather than placing a new one. Visit the "Current Orders" section to make this change.

You can also validate the status or modify your orders via the direct brokerage mobile application by following the steps below:

  • Sign in
  • Click on "More" and, in the "Activities", section, click on "Current orders".
