I get an error message when I try to trade options. How can I add the possibility to trade options to my National Bank Direct Brokerage account?

All you have to do is fill out a new Account Opening form and check the appropriate box to trade options.

Please note that the approval process for options trading will not begin until we have received all signed and duly completed documents. If your request is approved, you will receive confirmation from us. At this moment, you may begin trading options.

I receive an error message “Market orders are not allowed on the Pink Sheets.”. What does that mean?

Since OTC markets are regulated differently than traditional stock markets, you may only place price limit orders. You must therefore indicate the minimum price you seek for your transaction to be executed.

What are the trading hours for North American markets?

The usual stock market hours for North American exchanges (e.g., TSX, TSX Venture, NYSE, NASDAQ) are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. However, we provide extended trading hours, depending on the type of investment.

We invite you to view the complete schedule for securities and brokerage hours.

Are there fees associated with my transactions?

Depending on your account, fees apply to each transaction. Plus, some transactions may also be associated with commission fees. That is the case if you are looking to trade stocks, ETFs, options and certain mutual funds.

Visit our Pricing section for details on our fee structure.

I still don’t have access to a computer; how can I place an order?

You have two options. You may place an order via your smartphone or tablet, using our mobile site or you can call a representative to place your order by phone.

When you choose our mobile site, the fees are the same as when you use our transactional site. However, when you place an order by phone, with the help of a representative, the commission rate may be higher.
