Why do I have to provide my employment information when I open my brokerage account?

Employment is required to meet the requirements of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Regulations and securities rules, specifically the "know-your-client" rule.

The information may also be used to establish your creditworthiness and to determine whether you are considered an employee in the securities industry or subject to corporate insider rules.
